We will be in Almunecar during Easter week this April - and are not familiar with local practices. Can anyone give us an idea re: what services will be available that week? For instance, will stores be closed -- or have reduced hours, etc.? Will the Friday market take place that week? We assume that most restaurants will be open?

Visiting Almuñécar During Easter Week
1. Restaurants, Bars, and Cafés
Availability: Almost everything will be open. Restaurants, tapas bars, and beachside chiringuitos operate at peak capacity to serve visitors.
Tips:
- Reservations: Book dinner tables well in advance, especially for Thursday through Sunday evening.
- Procession Routes: Central streets and squares fill up during evening processions. Venues along main routes will be very crowded, and access on foot or by car may be restricted.
2. Supermarkets and Grocery Stores
| Day / Period |
Expected Supermarket Hours |
Notes |
| Palm Sunday – Holy Wednesday |
Regular hours (typically 09:00–21:30) |
All major chains (Mercadona, Lidl, Aldi, Día, Carrefour Express) operate normally. |
| Jueves Santo (Holy Thursday) |
Partial / Reduced hours |
Main chains may close early (e.g., 15:00) or stay closed. Smaller local mini-marts generally stay open. |
| Viernes Santo (Good Friday) |
Mostly Closed |
Major supermarkets close for the public holiday. Independent corner shops usually open for essentials. |
| Sábado Santo (Holy Saturday) |
Normal Saturday hours |
Standard trading day. Best time to restock groceries. |
| Easter Sunday |
Closed |
Standard Sunday closure policy for large supermarkets. Small bakeries and mini-marts may open in the morning. |
3. Non-Essential Retail & Boutique Shops
- Independent shops, boutiques, and bakeries in the Old Town typically close on Jueves Santo (Holy Thursday) and Viernes Santo (Good Friday).
- Shops along procession routes often close early in the afternoon to accommodate crowds and barriers.
4. The Friday Street Market
- Friday Market: The main Friday street market (Mercadillo) does not run on Good Friday due to street closures and procession logistics.
- Municipal Covered Market: Open earlier in the week (Monday through Thursday morning) for fresh fish, meat, and produce.
5. Getting Around and General Logistics
- Traffic & Parking: Driving through central Almuñécar during late afternoon and evening is difficult due to road closures for processions. Plan to walk or park on the outskirts.
- Banks & Public Services: Town hall offices, banks, and postal services are closed from Thursday through Sunday.
- Pharmacies: Standard pharmacies close on public holidays, but a designated duty pharmacy (Farmacia de Guardia) remains open 24/7.
