Uber in Granada, Spain
You can use Uber in Granada, but it functions differently than in many other countries. In Granada, the Uber app primarily acts as a gateway to call local licensed taxis rather than independent private drivers. However, thangs can change just get on the UBER app and see what happens.
The Reality of the Service
- Availability: The app is active 24/7, but since it relies on the local taxi fleet, availability can be lower during peak hours compared to "traditional" Uber markets.
- Pricing: Uber in Granada can often be significantly more expensive (sometimes 2x or 3x) than the standard metered taxi rate due to added service fees within the app.
- Vehicle Types: You will likely see "Uber Taxi" as your primary option rather than "UberX."
Better Alternatives
- PideTaxi: The official app used by local taxi drivers. It offers the same convenience as Uber (GPS tracking and digital payment) but at standard city rates.
- Cabify: A popular Spanish ride-hailing app that often has a larger presence and more consistent pricing for private VTC vehicles in Spain.
- Taxi Stands: For quick trips, walking to a "Parada de Taxi" or waving down a cab with a green light is usually the fastest method.
Tip: Granada is a very compact city. For the historic AlbaicĂn district or the Alhambra, the local "C" line micro-buses are often more efficient than cars due to the extremely narrow streets and traffic restrictions.

My experience suggests local taxis are cheaper than Uber

I had no problem with Uber, they would often connect you with local taxis, like being able to reserve cars in advance, easy use of website and payment up front.
