Yes, I like Guadix very much.

There is not much there for children but if you like mooching around it is fine.

Guadix is about 55km from Granada by motorway.
The scenery along the motorway is really impressive.

Don't forget that there is also a back way to Guadix along a back road via the Quentar reservoir.

In Guadix there are enough interesting things to do for a day trip.

Here are some ideas.

Guadix has an impressive cathedral designed by Diego de Siloé who is the same person who designed Granada cathedral. In the bottom of the catedral there is a museum filled with religious paintings and artefracts. There are some rather curious things such as the jawbone of Saint Torquato.
Guadix cathedral is a good place to spend an hour or so. The streets around the back of the Cathedral are pleasant.


Being in Guadix is like going back in a time machine anout 20 years.
Guadix has no massive hypermarkets which have put all the small retailers out of business so there are lots of small independent shops. The central market in the main high street is an interesting place to wander around. There are many stalls selling fish, meat and vegetables.

Guadix has a "barrio de cuevas" a cave house neighbourhood where most of the houses are caves. This is worth a drive through or a walk around.  There is a cave museum in Purullena which which is a village next to Guadix. More info

On Saturday mornings there is a big open air market next to the river worth a visit. I always buy a bag of roasted almonds and a selection of fancy olives. 

Eating in Guadix.
Guadix is cheaper than Granada and a lot of the menu del dia places are exceptional value and quality. I have to admit that every time I go to Guadix I am not very adventurous and I eat in a restaurant in the Plaza de la Constitución called Liceo Accitano which is good. Another good place is Braseria La Tinaja. A good cheap non touristy menu del dia place is Café Bar Dolar. 


Just to the north of Guadix towards Almeria is a massive solar power station with acres of solar panels and also there is a very big wind farm. The Spanish goverment seems to be encouraging renewable enery generation. It is possible to see the windmills for miles around.
