One of the most common question by visitors to Granada is about authentic Flamenco.
What do people actually mean by "authentic"?
In answering this question I will just try to answer the question that you probably should have asked.
Which is probably:
Can you recommend any flamenco in Granada that is very entertaining, involves virtuoso musicianship, spirited passionate dancing with a good atmosphere which does not make me feel too much like a tourist?
Here are two very authentic venues.
Peña La Platería
Established in 1949, Peña La Platería holds the distinction of being the oldest flamenco club in the world. Located in the historic Albaicín quarter, it offers one of the most authentic flamenco experiences in Spain. Unlike commercial "tablaos," this is a cultural association where the art of cante (singing) and toque (guitar) is preserved with deep respect. On Thursgay nights it is open to the public. There is a restaurant. Info about Thursday night flamenco Thursday night calendar
Eshavira Club
Hidden down a narrow alleyway near Plaza Nueva, Eshavira Club is a bohemian sanctuary for jazz and flamenco lovers. Known for its dim lighting, vintage atmosphere, and incredible acoustics, it is the go-to spot for late-night jam sessions and intimate performances by local and international virtuosos.
